This is a Center established by the Spiritan Congregation at SIST to encourage Spiritan animation and research. It was founded under the direction of Fr Elochukwu E. Uzukwu, C.S.Sp the founding rector of SIST. He has continued to direct the Centre ever since it began and recently, the Academic Board appointed one of its members to assist him. This appointment will take place as soon as it is confirmed by the Governing Council.
Besides Spiritan animation and research, this Center works with SIST administration, the Director of Formation and the General Council in Rome to organise a biennial programme called Formation of Formators. It is the training of formators both for religious orders and dioceses drawn from all the Anglo-phone African countries. The Brottier Center has made great contributions to the Church in Africa through this training of formation personnel.
Blessed Daniel Brottier was a French Spiritan born in France in 1876 and ordained priest 1899. His zeal for spreading the Gospel beyond the classroom or the confines of France made him to join the Spiritan Congregation. He was sent to Senegal, West Africa. After eight years there, he went back to France where he established a project for orphans and abandoned children in the suburb of Paris. He died in 1936 and was beatified in 1984 by Pope John Paul II.
